OSTEOARTHRITIS:

Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common chronic joint condition. The end of two bones of the joint covered with protective tissue called cartilage. In OA, this cartilage breaks down, causing the bones within the joint to rub together. This cause pain, stiffness and other symptoms.

SYMPTOMS:

CAUSES:

Osteoarthritis occurs when the cartilage that cushions the end of bones gradually deteriorates. Osteoarthritis has often been referred to as a “wear and tear” disease. But beside the breakdown of cartilage, osteoarthritis affects the entire joint.

ACL INJURY

In knee joint, there are two ligament to cross each other to form an “X” with anterior cruciate ligament in front and posterior cruciate ligament in back. The cruciate ligaments control the back and forth motion of knee.

CAUSE:

An ACL injury can occur due to: over extending of knee, quickly stop moving and changing direction, landing from a jump.

MENISCUS INJURY

Meniscus are C –shaped cartilaginous tissue present in KNEE that acts as a shock-absorber.it is a common injury of knee which result from forceful twisting or rotation of knee.

Meniscus injuries are approximately 15 percent of all sport injuries.

Disease progression is usually slow but can ultimately lead to joint failure with pain and disability.

OA of knee tend to cause greatest burden to the population as pain and stiffness leads to significant disability requiring surgical intervention.

OA is associated with an extremely high economic burden. This burden is largely attributable to the effects of disability, comorbid disease and the expense of treatment.
